Paris Saint-Germain survived a breathtaking Bayern Munich fightback to claim a 5-4 victory in their UEFA Champions League clash at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.
In a match that had everything — lead changes, world-class goals, and late drama — PSG took a crucial first-leg lead in what many are already calling the tie of the tournament.
The hosts flew out of the blocks. A quick-fire double before the 20th minute put PSG 2-0 up and sent the Parc into raptures. Bayern responded through a clinical finish on the half-hour, but PSG restored their two-goal cushion minutes later.
The Germans cut the deficit again before half-time, only for PSG to strike on the break to make it 4-2 at the interval.
Bayern emerged transformed after the restart. Two goals in seven minutes dragged the Bundesliga giants level at 4-4, silencing the home crowd and setting up a frantic final 25 minutes.
Both sides traded chances in an end-to-end finale. With five minutes left, PSG’s decisive moment came — a low drive from the edge of the box that beat the keeper and sparked wild celebrations.
PSG coach Luis Enrique hailed his side’s character: “It was madness. We showed quality, but also heart. To win like this against Bayern shows we are ready for anything.”
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel was left to rue defensive lapses: “Five goals conceded is too many. We showed great spirit to come back, but we must defend better in Munich.”
The result leaves the tie finely poised ahead of the return leg at the Allianz Arena next week. PSG take a one-goal advantage, but Bayern’s four away goals keep them firmly in the contest.
