The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line has resumed passenger operations following a fire incident that disrupted train services on Saturday.
According to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), power was restored to the tracks after engineers completed repairs.
LAMATA spokesperson, Kolawole Ojelabi, disclosed this on Sunday.
It was reported that a fire broke out on a section of the Blue Line track near the NEPA Station, close to Eko Bridge, in the Apogbon area of Lagos on Saturday.
Emergency responders quickly extinguished the fire, preventing significant damage.
LAMΑΤΑ explained that the incident occurred after a section of the cable supplying power to the tracks got burnt following “a cable insulation failure.”
“The engineers said, “The DRUPS (Diesel Rotary Uninterruptible Power Supply devices) alarm has been cleared, and power has been restored at the generation plant. Following the outage on Saturday, passenger operations were halted to allow engineers access to the tracks to replace the burnt power cable,” Ojelabi stated.
“The Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMΑΤΑ), Engr. Mrs Abimbola Akinajo said the agency will always be alive to its responsibility by ensuring faults on the line were promptly cleared whenever they occurred to minimise the impact on commuters,” he added
