Gunmen kill man, abduct wife in Chibok community

Suspected kidnappers have killed a 56-year-old man and abducted his wife during a late-night attack on Takulashe village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno.
Zagazola Makama report that the incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2026, when unknown gunmen invaded the residence of the victim and opened fire sporadically.
The sources said the victim, identified as Bla Abakar Maulud, was fatally shot on the left side of his chest during the attack.
They added that the assailants abducted his wife, Maimuna Shaibu, 48, and fled to an unknown destination.
According to the sources, the incident was reported at about 6:50 a.m. on Jan. 3, 2026, following which security operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer in Chibok visited the scene.
“The victim was evacuated to General Hospital, Chibok, where a medical doctor certified him dead,” the sources said.
They noted that the corpse was released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The sources said search-and-rescue operations were ongoing to locate and rescue the abducted woman, while an investigation into the incident had commenced.
